The Arizona Southern Baptist Conference: Report on a Vigil for Life on August 27

There was a challenge in the air Saturday morning at the main entrance of North Phoenix 
Baptist's mega-church on Central Avenue where the Arizona State Southern Baptists held 
their annual conference.  The attendance was large, including loads of Baptist busses from 
distant locations driving past the men's only Vigil at point-blank range, in point blank 
view of big black on yellow posters.


The Southern Baptist Convention, with few exceptions, has been deeply and permanently 
influenced by Cyrus I. Scofield's "Reference Bible," ghost written for Oxford University Press. 
The book has transformed God into the State of Israel's private real estate agent for desert and 
ocean frontage.  Scofield was in fact a criminal forger, a wife and child deserter, and a man 
who became famous writing a Zionist-friendly "Bible" made-to-order to shape neo-Christianity 
into form of radical, deadly Zionism.


One of Scofield's most devout Baptist advocates was now deceased John F. Walvoord, who 
was for 25 years President of the Dallas Theological Seminary, an institution that shamelessly 
churned out Scofield-indoctrinated pastors.  Shameful is too kind a word for Walvoord, a religious 
fraud who allowed his name to be used on the editorial board of a book whose "editor" was 
a front man who had been dead for 26 years.  He is also author of Armageddon, Oil and the 
Middle East Crisis a book that's racist conclusions are extracted directly from Scofield's footnotes 
to Matthew Chapter 25.


Fortunately for mankind, the tide is turning within the Baptist churches' membership, and this 
was again visible to the vigil holders in front of the church.  One big yellow and black sign attracted 
noticeable attention.  It read: BAPTIST RACISM KILLS PALESTINIANS


Surprisingly, a significant few of those attending (presumably Baptist) actually smiled, waved, 
or gave thumbs up to the sign as they passed by.  Also increasingly noticeable is that "Christian
Racism" or "Christian-Zionism" as Arial Sharon and other Israelis so openly call it, is finally being 
questioned by a few Baptists.  The Great Turning we have written has begun.

Other banners shown to the Baptists included:

• BLESSED ARE THE PEACE MAKERS
• CHOOSE LIFE NOT WAR
• NO MORE WARS FOR ISRAEL

Our posters work because we know what Baptists think.  Yesterday, a young man named 
Jim called from Connecticut to inquire about the purchase of a book, not just any book, he 
said, but the best one we have to explain what is going on in America for someone who can 
afford only one.  I asked him to tell me more, and he narrowed the subject down by relating 
a story about his experiences in the church.


Jim, who is physically disabled, went on to say that when he raised his concerns about 
Christians' support for war and carte blanche support for the state of Israel at church.  But 
his associates tended to treat his questions with hostility as though he is a hopelessly lost 
sinner.


One, he said, asked him if God might not be punishing Jim for his failure to acknowledge 
the "chosen people."  The churchgoer actually suggested that as bad as his health is, it 
might get worse, for "GOD BLESSES THOSE WHO BLESS ISRAEL AND CURSES THOSE 
WHO CURSE HER."  Consider WHO WOULD JESUS BOMB?  This man bombed Jim in Jesus' 
name, no different from bombing the Iraqis and calling it "God's will."


Cyrus I. Scofield, writing for a more biblically knowledgeable audience in 1908, never dared 
to tamper with the New Testament, but today's celebrity leaders, like Pat Roberson, think 
nothing of doing so.  They portray Jesus as a warmaker.


It imagine that Israel's people are physical "chosen" because they are now there, and are 
racial heirs to God's promise because of a heritage none can prove is a preposterous, racist 
stretch.  No individual can trace a drop of blood to Abraham.  There are no "physical children" of 
Abraham any more than there are physical children of Moses or of Alexander the Great!  Each 
Baptist who does not come out of this apostate church is as much a forger as was Scofield 
was.  We thank God for the few who waved in recognition of the simple truth in our banner, 
BAPTIST RECISM KILLS PALESTINIANS.
