Religion & State
Why Take Prayer Out of Schools? by Michelle Kidwell
I've heard it over and over again, people throwing Separation of Church and State in the faces of Christian, because they want God taken out of our everyday lives.
Well, why was the Separation of Church and State written into the US Constitution? It was written into the Constitution so the Covernment couldn't run the Church, not the other way around. Our founding Fathers didn't want America to become like England was at the time, and have our churches run by the goverment.
We are a Christian nation founded upon Christian principles. That is not to say that those that are not Christians are not welcome here, but don't try to take the foundation that this country was built upon away from those of us who are Christians. Taking prayer out of schools and God out of the pledge, what does that do? It takes the very foundation of this Country and shakes it to it's core. Look it up Puritans searching for Religious freedom away from the Church of England landed on Plymouth rock and started this country. The Puritans were a Christian People even if they did go to extremes at times, I am not saying we need to strive to be like the Puritans because that would mean trying to get rid off anyone who isn't just like us, what I am pointing out is the fact that we are a Christian nation.
The men who signed the Declaration of Independence giving us our government our country, were Christians. No they were not perfect, men like Thomas Jefferson ownded slaves, and that is something I am totally against. Man is not meant to own another Man, God created us as free agents, free to live our lives, and when we try to enslave a man, woman, or child we are taking there freedom away from them, not allowing them to live as God would have them live. But my point is Thomas Jefferson was a Christian. He even writes (1) "The Bible Is The Cornerstone of Liberty. " You noticed how he said the Bible, not some other book, does that not sound like a statement from a Christian Man.
George Washington our first president, wasn't a man of great intelligence, or great strength, yet he was a strong man, in his Faith in God. He too was a Christian and prayed over our country. Again I am not trying to make him out to be a saint, just what he was a Christian, with Christian principles who believed in praying over his country. And Now they are talking about stoping the Morning Prayer said by Congress, because they think it's unconstitutional. What makes it unconstitutional to pray for our country? We need the Divine Guidance only the good Lord can give us! If you read the Declaration of Independence you will notice the mention of our Creator, Divine Providence, and Sacred honor. Do these not sound like words penned by a Man who believed in and had a relationship with Our Saviour?
One of the great thinkers, and inventors of his day was also a Christian. Benjamin Franklin wrote these words (2) " I therefore beg leave to move- That henceforth prayers, imploring the assistance of Heaven, and it's blessings on our deliberations, be held in this assembly before we proceed to business; and that one or more clergy of this city be requested to officiate in that service. "
Do we think that this country is so great, that we don't need God. Well I have news for anyone who feels that way, it is because of God that this country is a great one to live in. But we are trying to make this country into a Godless country, so those of us like myself who are believers need to stand up proudly and serve the Lord.
(3) " In the begginning of the contest with Great Britain when were sensible of danger, we had daily prayers in this room for divine protection. Our prayers were heard, and they were graciously answered... Have we now forgotten this powerful friend? Or do we no longer need his assistance. I have lived a long time, and the longer I live, the more conincing proofs I see of this truth: " that God governs the affairs of man." And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without his notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without his aide? " Ben Frankling to the Constitutional Congress 1787.
Now tell me do these men sound like believers, or non-believers? These men were believers building this nation upon Christian Principles so what right do we have to think we can take God out of our country. If you don't want to pray, or salute the flag that is your right, but don't take that right from me. Don't tell me just because I am in a public place I can not proclaim the Glory of God, because that is not your right.
This countries very foundation is Christianity, and it is God who not only created this country, but the entire world, the entire Universe, and it is God's judgement we must face. And though I am not perfect I long to hear these words when I pass into eternity. "Good and well done my Faithful Servant. Enter into my Father's house. "
