Tornado Hist Bangladesh: 4000 families displaced. Government of Bangladesh slams $0.5 million loans on families by Sophia Barkat On April 19th tornadoes hit Mymensingh and Netrokona, 90miles from Dhaka, Bangladesh, leaving 4000 families homeless. Read the OneWorld South Asia press release. Sharier Khan of OneWorld South Asia reports : "Minister for Relief and Disaster Management Chowdhury Kamal Ibne Yusuf, said "This is the nor'wester season. We cannot prevent such disasters but can certainly rehabilitate the victims. We have already taken measures to address the crisis." What You Can Do to Help Seeing how the people are poor and cannot repay a half-million dollar loan, I'm inviting Bangladeshi expatriats in the US and around the world to think of a way of helping the people. If you are interested please contact the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington to find out how to send the money to the Bangladeshi Government to repay this illogical loan. Please also protest the making of loans to people who cannot repay such amounts, and ask for a public disclosure of such loans. The contact address at Bangladesh Embassy in Washington is linked here: http://www.bangladoot.org/contactus.asp Thanks, Sophia Barkat Editor, Juryfury.com Tel (928) 214-7365 About the Author(s): See under Our Contributors to find out about the Author(s) of this article. |
