Necessary Measures What Needs to be done in Pakistan by Sophia Barkat At first I thought it was Musharraf trying to clean house. The Mullahs dictate politics in Pakistan and he is supposed to be tired of them. http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20030501/ap_on_re_as/pakistan_\ bin_laden_1 And for a moment I was jubilant. Here's a place where Islamic fundamentalism has become dangerous to it's citizens. Perhaps Musharraf will get some help from the Coalition? But no. On CNN, I just heard, that Musharraf isn't the one calling for this move, but Rumsfeld and such, who think bin Laden is in Pakistan. Immediately, my whole thinking changes. I begin to think this is part of the Coalitions propaganda - to clean house in Pakistan, and suddenly I am cautious. It is as though we all know what needs to change in what part of the world but we have a problem with who does it. But then it occurred to me that perhaps Musharraf, who needs to hobnob with his Muslim clerics to remain in power, may want this secretly but cannot say it. In which case, either way, I should be happy. Except, a warning flashed through my mind. Bombs! Dead people. Suffering. The formula for change that the US applies. And immediately, I thought NO. Pakistan needs bloodless reformation. And now, I'm alarmed once again. It would seem that the US wishes to focus on IRAQ, simply because one solid victory is better than three vague ones. Iraq has Oil and it would be a mistake to divide US forces amongst Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan. So, what if anything does Rumsfeld want to do in Pakistan? And if Musharraf is asking for help, he is either daft or in dire straits. He could be in dire straits. The way he allowed the US to dictate what it could do in Afghanistan, Afghanis probably don't see Musharraf in the same light. For those just joining the world, the US simply bombed an already monolithic country back to the sand. Does anyone know more on this? What's happening in Pakistan? by Cherrie Lynn Lipsett Re: Sophia's post Well it seems someone "leaked" this information to the US. I am not sure who it was leaked to but probably someone in the CIA. It seems Al Quaeda, who does work like a corporation and does use some of corporate theory, has been using the US to house and care for their people who have become a liability rather than an asset. That is people the US knew to be members. Of course they are of no more use to Al Quaeda but they have been having to support them with lesser income coming in. So they have decided to just give them to the US to take them off Al Quaeda's payroll and put them under the US's care. Notice all these people they capture out of Pakistan are people who have been known for quite awhile and are not now active in the Al Quaeda organization as they are known by the enemy, the US. BUT before they have them captured by the US they feed them full of false information to give the US. Then maybe they won't get tortured so badly for information since they have good plans to give the US. Not some plan they have made up suddenly under extreme torture which the US CIA can see through those plans easily. Now it seems the US doesn't think this is as funny as some of us do. I WILL SAY THE PAKISTAN GOVERNMENT WERE DUPED ALSO. However the US doesn't believe this. I am laughing now as I write this. It is so funny. I just found out last week and no you can't know who told me. by Trevor Batten Re: Cherrie's post It rather looks as if the US was taken for a ride over Iraq. Before the war Tony Blair was claiming to have "solid proof" of WMD's and terrorist links (to say nothing of the cheering Iraqis that were supposed appear). Surprisingly, after the war nothing seems to have materialized. Even if something is eventually found -the delay seems to suggest that the "solid proof" was less solid than it was supposed to be. Now the US is trying to find people to set up their client government. Apparently, those who refuse are being termed "militant Muslims" -nicely criminalised and out of the way...... I guess people will always be pleased to hear what they want to hear -so the spies are always ready for a good story. Presumably, everything must be done to prevent a legal trial -otherwise the true story might emerge. Somehow one can't help the feeling that the Americans may have the best intelligence service in the world -but they just don't have the intelligence to use it properly! |
